Digital Divide

There are many remote regions in Africa where it is easy to feel isolated from the rest of the world. Broadband is scarce and Internet connections are not only rare, but also unreliable. Africa is vast and very rural in many parts. About 63% of Sub Saharan population lives in rural areas. The continent is not only massive in terms of land mass, but in the potential that it represents to businesses across all industries. In fact, Africa is considered as the next place where business is set to boom. However for this to become a reality, requires overcoming major  obstacles as well as ensuring that robust communication is in place. Digital Divide, or the digital split, is a social issue referring to the differing amount of information between those who have access to the Internet (especially broadband access) and those who do not have access.

Bridging the divide through satellite internet

Satellite is the best and most reliable way forward, and will undoubtedly have a really positive impact on the continent. It is the most promising solution that can provide reliable connectivity to remote and urban areas. Satellite Internet has a multitude of advantages. It is extremely fast to deploy irrespective of location. Satellite is especially useful in industries that rely heavily on being in constant communications. These include financial services, educational institutions, healthcare providers and of course the agricultural sector. Satellite internet is the ideal service for any remote places, or areas where broadband is not ubiquitous, because access to it is simple and straightforward and can be done any time, regardless of location.

GoSat Africa’s contribution in reducing the Digital Divide

National governments, international institutions, and the private and public sector have all acknowledged the importance of bridging the digital divide to foster economic growth, social inclusion and meeting consumer demand. GoSat uses the new HTS technology allowing connection speeds 20 times higher than other existing technologies. We believe that a good Internet connection is an undeniable development factor and should be available to everyone, whether living in an urban or rural area. Internet access should no longer be a luxury and that’s how we want to help bridge the digital divide.
